The Giver: The Importance of Life

I first watched The Giver back in August.  I was all alone in bed at 12:30, and I was an emotional mess because that movie rang with so much truth.

I watched it again on my Birthday, January 12th, and the whole message about the importance of life and the raw beauty of it touched me just as deeply the second time. With the March for Life taking place this month, I decided to do a post on the Giver and how it shows us that all life, not matter how big or how small, how flawless or how damaged, is important and valuable. All life is precious.

For those of you that don't know, The Giver is a dystopian story about a society that has rebuilt itself after some global catastrophe. They've built a world of happiness and contentment where everyone is equal. There is no war or suffering, no hate, no anger. In fact this world seems downright perfect.

However, as the story goes on the perfection of this painless world is called into question. In this society, each man and woman is placed into a specific line of work after graduation which they will pursue until they retire to Elsewhere. The main Character, Jonas, is placed into a critical position: He is the receiver of memory. Even in a world where emotions are held in check and the history of our world is no longer passed down, the 'Elders' (AKA Governors) sometimes need to consult past mistakes to better plan for future laws, decisions, and problems. This means that there has to be someone who does remember the past, who does know what the world was like before everything changed. This person is The Giver. From the time our New World began there has been a Giver, one person in the hundreds who knows the truth of our past and heeds it. The Elders need this Giver, but is a delicate job as the memories and knowledge cannot be shared with anyone else for fear of causing a rebellion. People would get curious about the past, about their feelings, and eventually they'd want that back. The Giver holds the memories for the Elders, and passes them to the Receiver when his time is over - in this instance, Jonas.

But Jonas is not your average Receiver and as he learns about the past, about the emotions humans you to have, and the beautiful diversity of our lives, he realizes that a perfect society is not worth what we had to sacrifice for it.

What I loved most about this movie was the amazing Pro-Life message. Not just with children either, though I will get to that in this post. The whole movie was a message about why life is worth living, even if there is pain and strife and horror. Everyone deserves to experience the wonder of life. Whether they be young or old, weak or strong, deformed or beautiful, crippled or fit, slow or excelling, handicapped or ingenious - everyone deserves to live, and life isn't something you should take from anyone.  It had a beautiful message about how sadness and cruelty is worth the experience of joy and goodness. Knowing love is worth Enduring the hate that is bound to follow.  Happiness is worth the suffering. Where there is good there will always be bad, but that doesn't make the good any less wonderful or brilliant.

This is a very applicable message and story for us today. In our society, life is treated badly. The elderly aren't cared for properly. Children are carefully scheduled into a couple's happy marriage so that they don't have too many and aren't inconvenienced - that is, if they have any at all. Often babies are killed before they see life outside the womb. The Giver brought each of these problems to light, and many more.

In The Giver's world, individuality is gone. No one is allowed to be different from anyone else. There is no "she's smarter than me," or, "He's better at that than I am." No one is higher or lower than anyone else. Everyone is the same. Everyone has the same comforts, the same rules, the same teachings. Nothing is ever surprising, or hurtful. There are no fights. No passions. No private dreams or goals that might conflict with another's. Everyone has their path chosen and assigned to them from the government. There is no freedom of choice. You do what you're told, you obey the rules, and everyone is happy.

Our Society isn't as bad as The Giver's - at least not yet. But I can't help seeing some frightening parallels. For starters, "Precision of language." How many of us are really allowed to say what we want without some bad repercussions? You must be very careful to never hurt anyone's feelings by saying something too deep or too honest. In a way we do have to monitor our words.  Just think of how hard it is to say "God" or "Jesus Christ," in public. Or how about, "I believe in marriage between a man and a woman," or "I don't agree with this person(s) opinion, because my belief is such-and-such," or, "I think men are better at such-and-such a thing than women are."  And we do have to apologize for saying or doing anything even remotely hurtful or irritating to someone else. Heaven forbid you make somebody feel bad or *gasp* maybe think a little; about who they are, about what they do.

How about emotions? How often can we really express our interest/beliefs/feelings? Everything is very surface. We carefully walk on eggshells around our fellow humans to keep from upsetting anyone, or causing a problem. Society is teaching children some very strange things about feelings. Don't get angry if someone disagrees with you - that's there opinion. If someone is bothering you, maybe try to confront them with words and if that doesn't work, just walk away. If you're feelings are hurt, talk about it. You have a right to feel hurt. Experience it, express it. Have a hug. Go off alone and sit until you feel better.  It's all about you feeling like you are comfortable enough to go on. Face your feelings and figure out a way to get back to a calm balance. Does anyone else see a disturbing connection here? Let your feelings out and then forget about them. Don't dwell on feelings because then you can't be in a comfortable place.

Uhm. Life doesn't work that way. You are going to get hurt. You are going to grieve. You are going to be heartbroken. And that pain will last, sometimes a really long time. That is part of life and that is part of your development as a person. If you never have to struggle or fight, or face some hurt, you will never learn how strong, brave or resilient you are. And that's sad! Children don't need to be coddled, to identify their feelings, talk them over, and quickly drop them because really, It's Okay. Children need to understand that feelings grow out of emotions, and emotions are a good thing. Should you be in control of them? Absolutely; they're dangerous. But they are also necessary if you want to be a person of any character and depth at all.

Feelings are fleeting. They’re on the surface. But emotions, are deeper. They linger. - The Giver

Feelings are petty and altogether too much importance is placed on them. A feeling doesn't last long. You need to know that having your feelings hurt happens and to tough it up. How are you going anyone in life if you are so fragile that someone saying, No, you're wrong, or the like, is going to shatter your tiny comfort globe? That is a silly way to live. In the long run, feelings are fleeting and don't last long, they are just a natural instinct which stem from something much stronger. Emotions. However, emotions are almost disregarded, and beliefs and passions are looked upon with a most tolerant, almost mocking view.

This is what I loved about the Giver. How it looked at the facts of our world and brought them to light in all their honest fact. The pressure for children to behave just so. The pressure for adults to raise their children just so. The old being relatively useless. The young carefully modeled into perfect citizens. The rebels found and quickly silenced. Beliefs being okay so long as they aren't voiced too loudly or for too long; keep your opinions to yourself, thank you, and don't violate anyone else. It's an idea world where no one is allowed to quarrel or disagree. But that also means no one is allowed to form deep, emotional ideas, or have deep, emotional relationships because that's way too dangerous. Don't share unique ideas! That leads to conflict which leads to pain! Don't hold hands! Holding hands leads to caring, caring leads to hurt, hurt leads to anger, anger leads to violence... on and on.

The Community in The Giver acts as though it cares about each individual but really it only cares about the whole. The Community acts as though it cares about your ideas, thoughts or concerns, but really it doesn't. Your own feelings don't matter, you must believe and follow the ideals of the Community. They act as though they want everyone to be happy and live in comfort, but they force that false happiness and comfort upon you, so you have no choice but to live in blissful carelessness. The Community acts as though life has value, but they don't practice that. They kill off anyone too weak or inconvenient - Oh, excuse me. They send them to Elsewhere. *squints* Nothing must be violent or appalling, so even death is given a new name and painted as some type of reward, a peaceful retirement. No one mentions the ending of a life. That is too brutal. We simply no longer need this individual so we will quietly dispose of them. Sound familiar?

The Community can choose to get rid of whomever they want, whenever they want to. The old, the young, the innocent, the infants. There is absolutely no regard for the individuals life. Once there usefulness is over it is time to be rid of them. I liked how this movie showed that losing emotions and morality meant losing our respect for life. It rang with so much truth - especially when you think about the Pro-Choice activists in society today. Actually, one of my favorite things about this movie was the situation with the babies. How those infants the Community deemed "worthy" or "strong enough" got a chance at life, but those too weak or problematic got scratched off the list. It was painted as a Choice, a necessary action with no need for regret, but it wasn't necessary and it was horrible. Any baby they weren't sure they should keep was placed in "Uncertains," and if they decided that baby just didn't have the capacity to be in this world, injection, the baby was gone. Just like that. No tears, no mess. Just a dead baby, a box, and a trash can.

"That's death.[ ]He doesn't know what he's doing...? He killed him!" -Jonas.

It was all so familiar. It's what happens today, all over the world. Unwanted babies are treated like trash to be thrown out. Infants are murdered fresh from the womb. They're not even given a chance. There is a lot of talk about how life in the womb isn't life, but then why does "it" have a heartbeat? Why does "it" grow? Why does "It" suck his thumb? Roll over? Have brainwaves? At what point does this "it" decide to become a baby? Is a seed, planted and taking root, not alive because the flower hasn't grown up from it yet? Of course not! The seed will grow into a tree. The Infant will grow into an adult - if he is only given the time to do so. It is evil to destroy him before he even has the chance to break soil.

Jonas recognized the evil. He knew that the world no longer understood death, but he had the memories, he had the passions, the faith, the emotions. He did understand. And he was angry and hurt and confused. The baby was alive and then he was dead. For no reason! Didn't he matter? Didn't they care? I found myself relating to Jonas on a spiritual level. LIFE MATTERS. No matter what life it is, no matter how old, how young, how useful, how necessary, each life matters. Every life has the potential to be everything and anything in this messy world of ours. I loved that Jonas realized that and took control. He realized the last Receiver had been killed for not being able to complete her duties, that retirees were killed because they were no longer useful, that anyone deemed unworthy was sent to Elsewhere: AKA, murdered. But he only learned these truths when he saw the helpless, innocent baby killed without hesitation. That was when he realized what the Community really did. That was when he decided it was time for things to change. No amount of balanced comfort was worth the cold indifference mankind had acquired toward the value of life.

Once Jonas understood this, he understood two other things as well. He needed to bring back the memories, the right and the wrong, and he needed to save the baby, Gabriel, who was next in line for the injection. A baby his father had brought home from the hospital only a few days before in an attempt to make him strong enough to be able to 'live.' A baby who was now back at the hospital, awaiting death.

I'm going to say right now, Jonas running in and saving an innocent infant from slaughter was without a doubt the best part of the movie. He broke all the rules, got himself marked as a criminal and hunted like an animal, all to save a baby. And when he took that life in his arms he ran. He ran to save life once and for all. He ran to save the value of life, to save the meaning of life. He ran to bring back the beauty of life, the wonder, the pain, the joy. He ran to save all life that the child in his arms represented. The lives of his friends, his family. The lives of the old and the young, the unique, the damaged, the different. The baby in his arms represented every life that had been lost because of empty cares and false comfort. That baby was the future. He was warm. He was beautiful. And he was alive. Not too weak. Not too problematic. Alive, breathing, and capable of so much more.
And in this way, a baby saved the world from an empty, cruel existence. It was the baby that gave Jonas the strength and courage to change the horror. To fix the emptiness. To bring back love. A baby brought back beauty and joy. A condemned baby, who should have been dead. A baby Society marked as inconvenient and unneeded. A baby that touched the Receivers heart and gave him the strength to go on when he was scared, cold and alone. It was the baby

Gabriel saved the world! He was a baby! And yet he saved the world!

It really makes you think, doesn't it?

"Gabe, there could be love."
- Jonas, The Giver

I will just leave this here; life matters. Even if you suffer, even if there is pain, every life is worth and every person deserves a chance at that life.

*Aggressively Vents Way Too Much*

WE'RE GOING TO SEE CIVIL WAR TONIGHT GUYS!!

*hyperventilates*

I made a promise to me. No going on the internet today. I can't see any spoilers!!!

I'm really freaking out right now because I don't want to see my bros fighting!! It is so not cool! I don't want to see Broken Sad Bucky, Or Broken Sad Steve, Or Broken Sad Tony! I just dooooooon't. I want them to have shwarma and share goofy stories and be friends! WHY THIS WAR? WHAT IS THIS???

My feels tonight...

It will be really nice to go to a Marvel movie, to be honest. I trust Marvel. It can be a bit extreme with its shows and do stuff I don't necessarily like, but I do trust those writers. I really trust them with the Avengers movies. They never let me down, and I need that good storytelling right now. As far as it goes, I have had a really crappy week when it comes to my fandoms.  It has gotten so bad that I feel I have to warn all of my followers about a few things.

A.) I was reading an excellent series called The Raven Boys. It was by an author I really liked. It had amazing brother/friendship stories in it, a nice subtle romance that actually worked, a cute girl character, and a little hint of magic, just enough to make it feel a little like a fantasy. The books have been out for a while, but I was waiting to read them because I was afraid something horrible was going to happen in the last book. Like, the writer bowing to popular opinion and putting two characters together that are not supposed to be together. However, my friend kept saying the writer wouldn't do that. All the bros were just bros, it was obvious!! She was so sure, so finally I decided to give it a go. Maggie Stiefvater had written other books that were cute and good. She didn't seem like the weird type. I liked this writer. I had a wild hope she wouldn't betray me like Rick Riordan did.

I was wrong. In the last book Maggie Stiefvater decided it would be a great idea to make two of her bros gay. I didn't read this book. I was on book two and my sister called me and told me what happened in the last one. I sat there at the table and had a break down. I cried. I threw things. I fumed. I cried some more. The worst thing was, I loved that friendship story. The change was super unbelievable too, because for the other three books Adam was in love with a girl, and as for Ronan.... He was Catholic. He was a boxer. He was a protective brother bear. And he was the most manly man you would ever meet. He was hard to get close to, hard to understand. He was closed off an angry, but in the book I was reading I could see he was starting to open up. You saw more of his soft side. Especially when it came to Adam. I loved how fiercely protective he was of that boy. It was so sweet and awesome, and she ruined it!!!!

I felt sick and hollow, like I had lost something. I still feel sick whenever I think about it.

I feel a strong need to write an EPIC bro story now, emphasis on the brothers. I think others should do the same. *peers at Kat* We need to save friendship stories in general. I'm so tired of authors and their stupidity. If we want good stories we're gonna have to write them.

B.) A ton of my fandoms are crashing and burning around me. I haven't watched Supernatural since before Christmas, and I haven't been a real part of the Supernatural fandom for some time now, but after their latest plot development I will never watch it again. They actually introduced "God." And let's just say it was bad. it was really, really bad.

I really, really hate that show. HATE.

How did it get so bad?...

C.) Season Five of Grimm has been one wild train wreck. It is sad because I bet it would have been good if not for Nick & Adalind. See, there is one ship that the writers decided would be great fun to play with, and I hates it precious. It doesn't make sense, and I find it forced and rushed. These two characters were enemies for the first three and a half season. Enemies. They tried to kill each other and everything. Adalind used and manipulated Nick more times than I can count. She actively went after all of Nick's friends and his girlfriend, Juliette - (who was so precious by the way!!) just to hurt him. As for Nick, he attacked and threatened Adalind several times, kept her from her child (that was rough, even if it was needed) and full on hated the witch. For very good reasons! She was not a nice girl! She wouldn't leave him or his loved ones alone! They hated each other!! Now suddenly they like each other? They're in a relationship now??? WHAAAAAAT??

How does it make sense that the girl who hurt and traumatized Juliette, hurt Nick's partner, hurt Nick, hurt Nick's  fellow co-workers, tried to kill his aunt, disguised herself as Juliette and slept with him to steal his powers, and caused Juliette to become a wild, out of control monster, is now someone Nick trusts and loves?? IN LIKE FOUR MONTHS??? SO DUMB. So out of character!!!

On the upside, the real Juliette seems to be coming back to us. Hopefully Season 6 will fix all of that crap. I still like the characters enough to give it another chance. I just want them to go back to being the Grimm I loved. And I need Juliette and Nick need to be endgame.

D.) Don't read Seraphina. The cute sister story turns out to be a creepy love story in the second book. (this is going to be a thing. I just know it.)

E.) I love Doctor Who, but Moffat is turning it into the sort of show I would give up on if it was anything but Doctor Who. I love the Doctor so I stick with it, but if it was anything else I'd be out.  Moffat messes with things that were never supposed to be messed with. He's ruining everything I loved about that show, and I am honestly terrified the next Doctor will be female. In which case, I will bail and probably rant. True Whovians, we can't let this happen!!!

I was depressed this week. It is sad for me that so many of the things I used to love are dying. I curled up and drown my feels in Hawaii Five-0, and tried not to think about all the stories that had fallen apart. It is silly to get so upset over something like a story, but I am.

The thing is, I love being a fangirl. I love it. That is why it takes me so long to give up on a show/story. I love getting obsessed with shows, understanding references and wearing geeky shirts. I love being a part of this big geeky family that are all united by their love for a story. It is such fun! I noticed I do a thing though. If I lose a fandom, I go through mourning. I'm all forlorn and sad, and more often then not I try to find another fandom to join. In this case, I started Hawaii Five-0 and The Walking Dead.

I love H50. But I don't know what I think of TWD yet. It's really bloody. It has creepy zombies. It's weird. It's sad. It has some nice characters though. Characters that die. Well... some live. The really cool one is still alive in the latest season, and he is a big reason I'm watching it. I dunno. I have mixed emotions.

I'll keep you posted.

Hawaii Five-0 is really good though! You are safe with that one! And we get another season! Don't Jinx it!!

ACTUAL BROS.

Alrighty. Time for me to head off. Sorry this post is so random. I just felt the need to warn you all so you wouldn't have to suffer the same bitter disappointment I did.

I'm gonna hide in H50 and Marvel until stated otherwise. They're nice. The fandoms themselves are pretty nice too, which is a bonus. (Don't betray me writers. Please.)

Peace out y'all!

Happy Birthday to Me! Happy Birthday to me! Happy BIRRRRTHHHDAAAY TO MEeeeEEEEE!!! Happy birthday to me!

I'm sixteen today!! Yep! The big, One Six that everyone is always telling you about. Yay!!!

Surprisingly enough, it has been a lovely birthday, even though the great majority of my family was sick. Most of my older sisters were up and about, and all of us healthy, or semi-healthy people went to Mass, which started off the day nicely. Than we came home and spent a lovely afternoon feasting and talking about the wonders of life, the love for fictional characters and the traumatic effects of reading a book.

What was the book of interest? That would beThe Queen of Attolia.

Oh my gosh, that book was soooo hard to read!! See, I love Eugenides. I love, love, love Eugenides. But... I was very upset for most of the story, it was so hard! There was one point when I got so angry I whacked the book several times vehemently against the couch. Then I cried.

I get very involved in my reading.

after much consideration however, I have finally decided I did, in fact, like the book. It may take me some time to really, really, like it. It was just.... so very hurtful. But it was brilliant, and Eugenides is worth all the horrors. He is such a brilliant character!

Aaaaaaaaand back to my birthday.....

I spent the remainder of my day being my ridiculous, Happy self because I am starting to feel well and didn't have to be super sick on my birthday, which was, you know, a big deal. My dad was kind of funny and sweet and turned on a bunch of You-are-Sixteen songs, during which I smiled awkwardly and wondered why my age was such a big deal. It was super sweet though, so I was happy. got to have a deLIcious meal and actually enjoy it, and I got to have cake and eat it with glee also. That was a big bonus. But I got really excited about my pressie.

I got a Tea-For-One!!! You do not understand the thoughtfulness of this gift! I love tea, I have it almost every night, it is the British in me. I so excite, I was so excite, I was so excite I forgot the finer points of grammar!!! *ehem* Excited. It also goes well with my Christmas gift from my sister Mahri,  who got me a whole little coffee set with a bunch of nifty little nibblets, like cookies and chocolate. Those things also go really well with tea guys.

I then finished off my special day with a grand Christmas movie of my choice, called A Christmas Cottage. People, I had never seen this movie before, and I was not disappointed. Its about Thomas Kincaid and his first painting in his local town. It sounds really boring but its really good and, except for a few swear words, its completely clean. Oh, and Jared Padalecki is in it. Did I mention that? He's Thomas. I am unashamed to say that he is the reason the movie caught my interest, and the main reason I watched it. I'm very glad that I did, because it was thoroughly enjoyable show on the whole, and I was even crying in a few places. But yeah, he was the best part. The movie itself is really really good, but..... he's the best part.

Unashamed. Unashamed. *grin*

Now I have to finish this post because its getting late and I have things I want to do with the rest of my evening, like sip tea from my new tea-cup and (maybe?) watch a Doctor Who. With Amy and Rory. Tea with the Ponds. What a lovely combination. *sigh* Okay, that settles it. I'm off! I have much to accomplish and the clocks do tick! Happy Birthday to me, and to all of you a very good night!

God Bless!

Having a wonderful time, wish you were here.

Sam Winchester

As I sit in my room, wearing my brown hoodie and sipping hot tea, I think back on my last week and wonder what about it was so awesomely EPIC that I could share it with the rest of the world.

The truth is, I have nothing.

Zero.
Ziltch
Notta.

I've just been sick and sad and sniffly. Except today. Today was nice because I got up and actually felt human again, and I was able to get dressed and eat breakfast like a normal person and not a zombie. I felt so lovely I flipped on Imagine Dragons and sang along while washin' up breakfast dishes - WHOA-O-O-O, WHOA-O-O-O-O, I'M RADIOACTIVE - RADIOACTIVE!!! I was seriously the only semi-healthy person left in my house, except for one sister. And she left me alone because she had work.

Too bad. We could have had so much fun. The only down-side to being sort-of-well again was that I had to do all the chores. But that was okay, I'd trade chores for sickness any day. Its the best day I've had since forever, it seems. I even went to the Library and checked out The Thief because I was never able to finish it when it first took its tour around the house. I'm loving it, and nothing devastating has happened just yet which is a good change. And now I've probably jinxed myself. Gen is gonna die. Or get mortally wounded. Or die. Or disappear. Or have something terrible happen to him. Or die. Or worse.
Gwen

Please don't let him die!!! **Headdesk**

I haven't written anything in my story all week. This makes me very sad and downcast - I'm still stuck at 6,000+ words or something like that. Maybe 6080. I'm feeling a bit stuck, but that happens a lot. I can do this, I'm a writer!! *crazed laughter* Seriously though. I am a bit stuck. All of you repeat after me.

I will not kill the character I am fond of even if he wishes to die heroically.

That's good. good for the soul. I'll do my best, though he's making it hard. He's too amazing when it comes to this type of thing. Why do characters become so amazing? I don't know. All I know is I wish they wouldn't. This is why its so hard for me to write. I create a world in my head, I create people and a story and a life and then I have to start scribbling on paper (Or a keypad) and I have to fill out, and touch up blanks, and sometimes the lives I create run off on their own and I don't have much control and I find myself doing terrible things to this world I created.

Then I cry, because how could I be so evil and terrible? Its the reason I prefer acting. See, I love telling stories. My problem is creating the story and making it work. To step into someone else's world, to become one of their characters and tell a story through your actions and your words, that is so much better than trying to spill your ideas out on paper. Because in acting you have a stage. You have a world you are in where you know every cranny, every ark. You know yourself, because you are a person created into this world, you have a role to play and you carry it out. Its safe. You aren't telling a story, you are the story. It isn't the same as being the overlord who tells the characters what to do and then they run away. Its hard, wanting something one way and getting it another. Its hard to write, and this story is going to be difficult to finish. I have too much I want to express and not enough words to use. Acting helps me express myself more, because I know all the words. and I can apply the emotion and make people understand the Created World and the people in it. I love being able to do that. For some reason with writing, its .... I dunno. Its a lot harder. I guess that's why its hard for me to consider myself a writer.

Speaking of acting, the community college is going to put on a musical this Spring that actually sounds clean and fun and something I could act in. Its called Man of La Mancha. It sounds really fun and, as a bonus, my singing teacher is playing the lead role. And I love my singing teacher. and getting a chance to work with him would be amazing, he could teach me so much. People, I need you all to pray that, if I do audition, I get in. I'll probably try it out. please pray for me, it would really help. This is a .... a pretty big deal for me. I've been looking for something like this for a while, it would be lovely to be able to act and feel a part of something. Plus, I could actually act and not have a some sister come barging in and stare at me all like....

Besides those things, my week has been pretty lay back. I did have a lovely Epiphany though. For those of you who don't know, Epiphany is the day the Wiseman found Our Lord and presented Him with gifts, twelve days after Christmas. (See, the 12 days of Christmas are AFTER Christmas not before. Do take note.) We have a very special tradition where we set aside a present or two on Christmas and don't open them until the Epiphany, so we kind of get a little Christmas after. It keeps the anticipation in the house and it makes the Days of Christmas very special for my family. The wiseman even come and leave a few extra things under the tree. Its all very awesome.

We have a luscious breakfast

We put in the Wiseman

And then we have our own, special little Christmas.

My gifties!!

The bowtie isn't actually an Epiphany gift but I wanted to show it off to all of you. Aren't they all so lovely?  Especially the Jamies Dodgers. I'm going to save them to have on hand when I watch Eleven regenerate; You know, something to console myself. I actually do want to watch that Christmas Special. Yes, its going to be heart-wrenching and sad and I'm going to sob and flail, but it also looks really good and as much as I hate to see Matt go, I am a bit excited for the Twelfth. I just wish we didn't have to say goodbye to the Eleventh to see him. Its going to be very hard goodbye.

We finished off the evening with Despicable Me 2, and you guys, it was adorable! I really enjoyed it and it more than met my expectations. I really loved Lucy too, she is so cute and crazy - the type of best friend I would have. You should watch it. Really. Go watch it.

Well, that's all for now! I'll probably be back soon with some sort of fun exciting thing that isn't so sad and sappy. Maybe by that time I'll be well again too. Until then!!--------

*KEVINLIVES!*

God Bless!

Happy Late New Year!

Rose Tyler

Happy Be-lated New Year all of you! I'm sorry I wasn't here for the big day, I had a nice post planned and everything, but I was quite, quite ill on New Year's and was sleeping for most of the day. which means I have to do yet another post a day late and a dollar short. Its becoming a bad habit with me. *sigh*

To celebrate the arrival of January and hope for the new page of the story, I've decided  to  do Ally's tag from last year.

What did you do in 2013 you'd never done before?

Want to know something terrible? I can't think of anything! I.. erm... I finished Tenth Grade. I started a book that I actually might finish. I started making music videos.....

Real busy year.

Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you be making a new one?

I don't do Resolutions. They never really work out for me and then I feel like a loser.

Did anyone close to you give birth?

No, but two of my sisters are expecting!!

Did anyone close to you die?

My best friend's dad passed away last year and he was a really good family friend so that was very hard.

What countries/states did you visit?

I went to Idaho for a couple of weeks where I met two of my bloggy friends which was very fun indeed. I also go to Nevada twice a month but that doesn't really count cause we only live about 40 minutes away from the border.

What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?

I'd like to have a better mind-set when it comes to school because... I'm really unmotivated when it comes to school. I would also like a role in a play/musical

What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory?

August 31st, the Day our family reunion began - hands down the best day of the year.

Did you move anywhere

Erm...no.

What was the Best month?

September, the month my entire family was altogether and there was an overwhelming amount of adorable wee-ones rushing about the premises.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Passing 10th Grade Math.

What was your biggest failure?

I didn't finish NaNo :''(

What was the best thing you bought?

Once Upon a Time Season 2. That show...*sigh*

Whose behavior merited celebration?

I can't answer that......

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

A certain black man of high authority.

Where did most of your money go?

Christmas Presents!!!!

What's the best concert you've been to this year?

I didn't go to a concert this year :(

What song or Album will always remind you of 2013?

Probably any song from Imagine Dragons, but especially River.

Compared to this time last year are you:
1. Happier or Sadder - Happier
2. thinner of fatter - About the same
3. Richer or poorer -  eh, so-so. We're definitely not rich

What do you wish you'd done more of?

I wish I'd been able to take a couple more acting classes, that would've been nice.

What do you wish you'd done less of?

I shouldn't worry so much, I need to relax a little. Also, I probably shouldn't spend quite so much time on Pinterest... *blush*

How did you spend Christmas?

At home with my family, just like always.

How are you spending your New Year?

Well I spent most of my New Year napping because I wasn't particularly well, but I was able to come out and enjoy a lovely meal with my family and do a little bit of celebrating during the evening. I was really tired though, which sucked.

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?

My best friend Sammi!

What was the best book you read?

I really loved The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, and The Angels Command. Those were both brilliant books. So was Leap of Faith but that's not a new discovery or anything. I read it every now and then to life my spirits. Its so sweet and beautiful and sad ... *sniffle*

Did you fall in love in 2013?

Unless fictional characters count, no.

What was your favorite TV Show?

Oh I had a couple....

Once Upon a Time is a fairly new show and I, personally, quite like it. It is really fun and exciting and it has some really brilliant characters in it. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a little fantasy with some magic, sword-fights and a truly amazing villain. But be warned - its the type of show that could have been EPIC, and as it is, its good and you enjoy it. My favorite characters are Rumplestiltskin and Belle. Love story aside, both these characters are interesting, well acted and fun to learn about. I also really like Neal and Henry.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate at this time last year?

No, but there are some people I don't really like anymore.

What did you want and get?

A new Computer. Oh, and a brown hoodie. That was the best moment of Christmas Morning you guys.

What did you want and not get?

I didn't get to take that Broadway class at the College which is really sad for me.

What were your favorite films of this year?

Does this mean New-Releases or movies I've only just watched this year? I'm going with movies I watched :)

Angel in the House- incredibly cute, family-friendly movie with a beautiful message and a touching storyline. Definitely worth your time.

Frozen - Disney's newest animated movie, enjoyable and fun to watch with just an undertone of seriousness and the little romance that Disney always has.

Monsters University - A prequel to Monsters Inc. Pixar delivered a wonderful cartoon that had you surprisingly emotional and gave you a nice, happy feeling everywhere. I loved it :)

Rise of the Guardians - One of the best movies you'll ever watch. Just go find it and you'll see why its one of my favorites!

Thor; the Dark world - I think Thor is an incredibly underrated avenger. I've always liked him and in this last movie he was really amazing and brilliant, and he and Loki were a lot of fun to watch. I do wish people would stop saying Loki is a hero, or that he's better than Thor. I love Loki, I do, and I think there is good still in him and he could be redeemed and make a turn-around, but he is a bad man and he deserves what he gets. That being said, I really liked him and Thor working together in this movie. Brother stories, man, they're the best. Brother and Friendship stories - nothing like them. They're my favorite.

What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?

Wow. Okay, give me a minute while I think back to January of last year. I believe I spent the day with my family, watched a fun movie and had my best friend over for the night. I can't remember the movie, but I think I got a Taylor Swift CD and some Pajama's. Anyway, it was a lovely day.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

I tried really hard to adopt Belle's style from Once Upon a Time, But mostly I was all over the board.

What kept you sane?

Well, I'm already insane, so the better question is; What kept you functioning? - My amazing friends, both on my street and online. My Family. My obsessions and Fandoms. My books. Looking forward to Christmas.

What celebritie/public figure did you fancy the most?

This is a tricky one, because there are a lot of actors I've seen this past year that I have quite liked/ I really like Matt Smith and his mates Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan, they are brilliant. But I suppose the two actors whom I just discovered and fell in love with would be these guys.

They just seem so sweet, so descent and normal.

What would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Not freaking out so much over things I can't control. Well, no freaking out on the whole would have been nice :)

What Political Issue stirred you the most?

I don't pay attention to politics but there was one thing that caught my interest. You have probaby all heard of the show Duck Dinesty. Its a Live-TV shows that feauture these firm, Christian men and their families and their daily lives. Well, one of these fellows was asked his opinion on the....queers, and he said he didn't agree with it. That's it. The station that asked the question went into an uproar and threatened to throw him off the show, but his family said they would stop the show if their Uncle wasn't allowed back on and the next thing you knew, the Uncle was in the next episode! But seriously guys, what the heck? If you ask a Christian who is obviously VERY DEVOUT in his faith, what his view are on immorality, what do you expect him to say? there were hundreds upon thousands of people defending this man, some of them being Queer people themselves. It was crazy.

Who did you miss?

Oh, my family mostly. and a couple good family-friends that live a long ways away and whom we don't get to see very often.

Who was the best person you met?

I don't meet a whole lot of people. I'm very isolated here, in this tiny neighborhood in the mountains. I didn't really meet anyone this year, but I got to know some people better - especially my bloggy friends!

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013

I'm not so worried about what people think anymore. I've always been more outgoing then the rest of my family, but its hard sometimes, to just be me and not care, especially when people you know don't seem to approve. But I figure, God made me so he must want me the way I am, quirks and all, and I shouldn't try to be anyone but me.

Now I feel all cheesy and chick-flicky.....

Quote a song or lyrics that sums up your year.

Just because everything's changing
doesn't mean its never been this way before

All you can do is try to know who your friends are
as you head off to the war.
Pick a star on the dark horizon and, follow the light!
I'll come back, when you call me.
No need to say goodbye.

Five personal significant events.

I finished Tenth Grade
I started a story that actually has a plot
My whole family came together for an entire week in September.
I took an acting class

I discovered Imagine Dragons

Five things I want to do in 2014

Act in a play
Finish my story
Do Nano (maybe?)
Finish 11th grade.
Take the college Broadway class

Five people I'd like to know  better in 2014.

My bloggy friends!! So original right?

Now once again, happy late-New Year. The very best wishes to all of you, in your home and in your personal life, and may this year be better than the last - just remember, when times are tough; Christmas is coming!

God bless!

In which I discuss many things including the lack of ginger

Today I'm going to be totally random and give you a rough look at what I've been up to for the past week.

First off, I've gotten totally addicted to Taylor Swift's "Red" CD. I listen to it at least once a day. I tend to listen to Red, 22, State of Grace, Stay and starlight the most, but I enjoy the whole CD. I also really like Speak Now, I think that album is super fun. I guess I'm just in a Taylor Swift mood.

The Community College in town is offering a Drama/Musical class this autumn, and I have jumped at the chance and decided to take it. I've really missed acting and it is really depressing that the only place in town that offers it has a limit on how many times a student can take their class. What's that about? Well, limit or no limit, I'm taking the musical class. I don't think our College has ever offered it before now, and I can't pass it up. I'm really excited, it almost makes autumn worth it. Almost. Not quite.

As for reading? I'm a bit in love with Percy Jackson. I stayed up past midnight reading "The Son of Neptune" and lay awake in bed being eaten with the desire to pick up The Mark of Athena and devour it. Unfortunately, said book was no where in our home so I had to live through the night without. I am now haunting the library and freaking out because both my sisters said it has a Sherlock cliff-hanger. That brings some horrifying images to my imagination, I tell you. I think when I'm reading I'm going to be shouting. A lot. Something like "JUMPING IS NOT ALLOWED!'

*Cough*
Moving on
As most of you probably know, the newest Doctor was announced to the public just a couple weeks ago. Wow. I have never been more happy to meet a New Doctor. For the past few weeks I've been eaten up by the rumor that the 12th Doctor was going to be a women or black. I felt sick about this, I mean the Doctor has been White, Male and British for 50 years. Why change it now?? MOFFAT!! So then the new Doctor walks out

And what's the first thing I think? 'Thank heaven he's a he!!' As the Twelfth he does look pretty good. he has nice presence, charm and wit, everything needed in a Doctor. he seems nice and I'm actually excited to meet him. I just wish I didn't have to say goodbye to Matt Smith in order to say Hello to Peter Capaldi. That's is a real downer :( I think I only have one objection. Why isn't he Ginger?! The 12th Doctor should be ginger!! He's always wanted to be ginger. Oh well. We don't always get what we want I suppose. I really interested to see how he and Clara play off each other. I hope they really build on the Sister/brother relationship in S8 and have Clara be Twelve's best friend. I'd love that.

Let's see, what else?... oh yes. I ordered Once Upon a Time Season 2 because Netflix has betrayed me and I no longer trust it. So until it arrives I am contenting myself with Supernatural, which I have decided to watch with my friend who is on the same season as me. And yes, I do like Supernatural. I like the chemistry between Dean and Sam, how they balance each other and how they act like real brothers. They're both amazing character and I like them equally. Sam is super sweet, quiet and polite but he can also be funny and he has a calm strength. Dean is more violent and aggressive, he's cocky and hilarious and I love how he looks after Sam.  That is just too adorable. It makes me wish I had brothers. I mean more brothers. Uh oh. I'm starting to rave and I've only seen two episodes. *Blush* Yikes. I'm hopeless. Completely hopeless.

Before I go I'm going to share a funny story. Last night my family and I were playing tag out in the back yard when my little sister Annie, who is almost 12, comes speeding across the yard and hurtles a camp chair. SPROING!! Right over she goes. So we, the older and wiser, decide that, if Annie can do it so can we. It became a game. Sister after sister, regardless of age, would go rushing by a ninety mile and hour, reach the camp chair and, SPROING!!! Over it they'd go. even the Nieces joined in, being helped over by an obliging aunt. It was so much fun, like having an obstacle Course right in your back yard!! and I only hit the top once! My legs aren't even soar!! We must have played with that camp chair for well over half and hour, run, run, run, SPROING!! run, run, run, SPROING!!!! .... It was a fulfilling evening.

And now I will fly away. Goodbye dearies!
