I am late to the party, but hopefully doing this New Year's Tag will help me get back into blogging!

1.) What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before?

  I started a stick fighting class, got hired on at a new job, successfully wrote out the plot and songs for some of my musicals, took a piano class, moved, bought a new dresser, and visited my sisters in North Dakota for the first time in 12 years. *loooooooooooong gasp* Okay, I did a lot. Those were the good highlights 8-D *cough* Don't ask me about the bad.

 2.) Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make one this year?

3.) Did anyone close to you give birth?

    Um. Yes? I think a sister had a baby... I'm such a bad aunt, lol. I don't remember which month it happened in. I believe... April?

4.) Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5.) What countries/states did you visit?

I visited Dakota and Montana, because I went out to see my sisters! *boing*

6.) What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017?

*cough* A license. *Cough*

7.) What date from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory? 

Prolly February 28th.

8.) Did you move anywhere?

AAAAAAH YAS! I moved into a beautiful little house with a few of my sisters. It's great, there are bedrooms, a nice kitchen, a lovely living room with space to visit - We even have a real fireplace! WITH ASH! IT'S AWESOME! SPAAAAAAAACE!

9.) What was your biggest achievement of the year?

  

I actually have no idea. I got a new job. Is that an achievement?

10.) What was your biggest failure?

I didn't make myself present online as much as I should have. And I didn't fulfill all my resolutions.

11.) Did you suffer illness or injury?

 Nooooooooope. I live a rather unremarkable life. Lol.

13.) Whose behavior merited celebration?

Our sweet family friend Gavin, because Gavin is a good person. And my sister and brother-in-law, Regina and Dan. They were awesome this year. They're just wonderful, generous people, who are there when you need them and do what they can to help. *heart eyes*

14.) Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

        You know the person I've mentioned the last few times at this point? Yeah, that person again. The name shall still go unmentioned :-[

15.) Where did most of your money go? 

Rent, manga, and a freaking computer, and Christmas gifts.

16.) What did you get really, really, really excited about?

November 28th. *dances* That's when I went to see my sisters!!!!

if you are wondering if the second photo was edited, yes it was. 8-) I put a fancy brick wall behind us because the other option was super unattractive. ;-)

17.) What was the best concert you’ve been to this year?

I didn't go to a concert. :-) I saw a Dear Evan Hansen bootleg though, and it was great. I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN IT ON BROADWAY! Why is New York so expensive? *dies*

18.) What song/album will always remind you of 2017?

      

  I don't know if they'll always remind me of 2017, but the song that resonated with me this year was"Oh My Soul" by Casting Crowns, and the album would be "Dear Evan Hansen."

19.) Compared to this time last year, are you:

 Nostalgic. Wistful. So much changed this past year and I sometimes find myself getting stupid emotional about it. I have trouble with change - even good change.
      

20.) What do you wish you’d done more of?

Music

Being so anxious and emotional. 2017 was a hard sort of  year my friends.

22.) What was your greatest musical discovery?

       Dear Evan Hansen, and Beethoven's Last Night.

Your candle's quite low, we've been watching it burn.

I quite like Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Yes they are crazy rockers, and yes their musical style is strange (it's called Orchestral Metal. Weird, right?) But I love how faith-based and pro-life all their story's are. They're Pro-life at every point too, whether it be an old life or a young life, a broken life, or a life well-lived. I think that's a beautiful thing.

23.) How did you spend Christmas?

       We had a sung Christmas Morning Mass (we sang it) and then the family got together at our beautiful new home for presents and food. It was a good Christmas, but a bit strange since it wasn't quite the same as usual. New house, new home... all a bit odd. 8-)

24.) How did you/are you spending New Year’s?

We watch The Lord of the Rings, and have agreed to do an annual rewatch. It's good to start off the New Year with Tolkien wisdom and encouragement!!!

25.) Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?

My sister Tiny, and my friend Ana.

26.) What was the best book you read?

YAS, THIS BOOK!!!!

       Best new book would have to be Thick as Thieves by Megan Whalen Turner. Some others books that merit a mention are The Hollow Boy and The Creeping Shadow by Jonathan Stroud. I've yet to read the Empty Grave. *hides* The best reread would have to be the King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner, and Pandora Hearts, by Jun Mochizuci

27.) Did you fall in love in 2017?

Still no.

28.) What was your favorite TV show?

I haven't watched many new shows this year, except Hawaii 5-0, So, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is still my favorite - although Marvel's The Defenders was pretty good, especially when Matt was on screen. I also liked Stranger Things, but I don't know how I feel about the ending of season two.

Bonus: Two shows I've officially boycotted would be Sherlock and Doctor Who (CURSE YOU MOFFAT!!!!) 

29.) Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? 

I don't hate. lol. Uuuuum, no. The people I didn't like last year are still on that list and no new people have emerged.

30.) What did you want and get?

A Nice House, a dresser, a bed, a new computer, Dear Evan Hansen, and Beethoven's Last Night.

*I think I should add I did in fact have a dresser and bed before now, they  just weren't my dresser and bed. 

31.) What did you want and not get?

A gun, because for some reason I can serve my country at eighteen with guns but I can't own one for personal use until I'm 21. Like.....why?

32.) What were your favorite films of this year?

        My favorite Live Action was Spiderman: Homecoming and my favorite animated movie was Coco. Coco made me cry.

(Oh, and I've seen Book of Life before. It's been a couple years but I still think Coco is different enough to hold it's own. It's like a retelling of the same myth, you know, but with a different plot/twist.)

33.) What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

My 19th birthday was a bit odd. I had a couple friends over, got an adorable card from Gavin, and watched The Giver. This year I watched The Rise of the Guardians, ate some delicious cake/brownie thing, and received beautiful fairy lights to decorate my room with. Plus Beethoven's Last Night which is an awesome album and brings out the electric-guitar side of me. The Lost Christmas Eve is still my favorite album that Trans-Siberian Orchestra does, but Beethoven is great too.

34.) How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2017?

I was something between Bo-Ho and Casual. 

35.) What kept you sane?

Prayer, my musicals, my books, my tea, my family and friends.

36.) Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I didn't really fancy anyone, but there were a couple public figures that left me pleasantly surprised with their good choices and actions.

37.) What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

2017 was one of those years that I burned at Midnight on January 1st. Sooooooooooo.

38.) What political issue stirred you the most?

So Many. *le sigh* But I was particularly stirred when President Trump covered the March for Life. That was rather surprising, but in a good way.

Oh wait. That was this year. LOOOOOOL.

39.) Who did you miss?

Sammi, and my sisters.

40.) Who was the best new person you met?

41.) Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2017.

This isn't technically a new life lesson, but it's one I was reminded of a lot in 2017. My family always comes together for meals, we sing and do music together, and generally just have good times in good company. I realize how rare that is the older I get, but I also realize how precious and important it is.

       1. February 28th, because reasons

       2. Moving into a new place

       3. When I applied for a new job
       4. When I was asked to be my friend's Confirmation Sponsor. She won't be confirmed for a while but it's still a privledge.

       5. Visiting my sisters at their homes for the first time. (Last time I visited Gina she was in a trailer house. Long story.)

44.) Five things I want to do in 2018:

        1. Make music.

        2. Finish my musicals. (yep, this is still a goal in progress)

        3. FINALLY get my license so I can visit my friend Sammi.

        4. Do more Catholic Action

        5.Buy a new rosary and a Saint Michael statue.

45.) Five people I’d like to know better in 2018:

Gavin. 8-) I'd like to visit my friend Ana and actually meet her in real life, so I guess she's one too. This question is stupid because I don't have five people to know better. 8-/ I guess I can still get to know Sammi. (????)

So now you're kind of caught up on my life 8-) ONWARD AND UPWARD!

In summary... 2017 was a hard year. It's up there with 2012 as a year of rough times. I had some special, beautiful moments, but also quite a few earthquake moments. It sounds like 2017 was hard for a lot of people, but God is ultimately in control and everything will be okay.

Here's hoping that 2018 is better than the years before it, filled with good times and good company. Eat, drink and be merry! Value good food and cheer over hoarded gold and be better for it.

Civil War Blog Catastro-Party Day Two!

Day Two: TAG!!!!  (Use the Tag for your team. It can be found HERE.)

When it comes right down to it, I am still #Teambros. So I am doing both tags because why not? It's my freaking Blog Party.

Team Iron Man:

1. What is your favorite Iron Man movie?

My favorite Iron Man movie is the first one. I love his character arc in that one. He's all sad and desperate to redeem himself... it make me sad for him.

That being said, I really liked the third one too. I liked how it proved (once again) that Tony doesn't need his suits or technology to be a genius, and his electronics aren't what make him a hero. He is just as heroic, in fact even more so, without them. I also really liked how Tony was struggling with anxiety, guilt and fear in that one - again, with a solid character arc. He has a character arc in every movie! People wonder why I love this Avenger so much?? CAUSE HE IS ALWAYS GROWING AND GETTING BETTER.

2. When did you decide you loved Iron Man?

That bit in the first Iron Man movie when he is captured by the bad guys, and they tell he has to make a missile, and he says "I refuse." And he doesn't give in, even after they torture him!

3. Do you tend to agree with Iron Man's thinking/logic?

No. Tony always has the best intentions and I applaud him for that. He just wants to help people and keep everyone safe. But his thinking is often flawed. It makes me really nervous, to be honest.

The thing is, Tony always tries to do the right thing. It just blows up in his face a lot.

4.) What is one thing about Tony that drives you insane?

His stupidity. Tony is a "My Way, No High Way," sort of guy. Even if something is dangerous and stupid, Tony is all, "I have to do this!" He is an idiot. In real life all his joking around to cover up pain would seriously drive me crazy, just because I would want to help him and he would just laugh stuff off. 

5.) Do you think you'd like Tony In real life?

Yeah, I think I would like Tony. We would have lots of differences in opinion, and I think a lot about Tony would make me a little crazy. But he's a nut, so I think I'd be his friend.

6.) Do you think you'd get along with Pepper Pots? What about Rhodey?

I'd get along with both of them. They're nice people. We could swap stories about the stupid things Tony does. It would be great.

7.) Would you like to live in Stark Tower?

I don't think so. It's a little too big and technical.

8.) Would you want to try out/own any of Iron Man's robots or fancy little gadgets?

Yeah I'd like to play with them... but robotics freak me out so I wouldn't want one to keep unless it was really simple. 

9.) What is your favorite Iron Man quote?

"I'm not crazy Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart, that its right."

"I saw young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them."

Aaaaaaaw, little broken man! You're awesome, you know that right? *Aggressively hugs Tony Stark*

10.) If Tony as he is now volunteered to take you to dinner and a movie, would you accept his invitation? Not a date, just a night out cause he knows you are soooooo stressed.

Ehe. Uhm. I don't know. He would have to promise me no getting drunk. I think he would make me nervous, one on one like that. If it was me and a few of my sisters, sure. If it was just me... I don't know. I would like to say "I HAD DINNER WITH TONY STARK!" But it would make me really nervous. So yeah, probably not. 


Team Captain America:


1.) What is your favorite Captain America movie?

This was a close call... they are all kind of tied in my love for them.

I think it's Captain America: The First Avenger

Pretty much everything about that movie is awesome. Steve's growth, the plot, the grumpy General, Peggy, Bucky, the Howling Comandoes... I just really love that whole movie. It's one I can watch again and again and not get tired of it. 

Steve Rogers is still just a little boy that gets excited over shields. Pass it on.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a close second. That. Movie. *DIES*

2.) When did you decide you loved Captain America?

Uhm. From the very beginning?? Duh!

"Just give me a chance."

3.) Do you tend to agree with Steve's thinking/logic?

Yeah. Steve is more old-fashioned. He is decent, honest and truthful. He has good morals and he sees the world more like I see it. We both believe in God, and we both think the government is way too insane. 

"SHIELD takes the world as is, not as we wish it to be, and it's time you got with that program, Captain."

"Don't hold your breath."

4.) What is one thing about Steve that drives you insane?

Steve is really stubborn, and usually I like that about him, but in Captain America: Civil War he should have taken ten minutes and tried to compromise. Cause that was annoying.

5.) What is your favorite Steve scene?

That whole scene when he is on the bridge with Bucky in CAWS. That was the bravest, stupidest thing Steve has ever done and I love him for it.

6.)  What is something about Steve that you really admire?

His determination to stand up for what's right when no one else will, and his courage to fight when the fight seems impossible to win, or when everyone else is telling him to stand down. 

7.) Do you think you would like Steve in real life?

Absolutely. He's a bit quiet, but I think we'd get along just fine.

8.) What do you think of Steve's motorcycle, and would you want a ride on it?

I LOVE HIS MOTORCYCLE AND YES I WANT TO RIDE IT!!!!

9.) What was an iconic "STEVE FREAKIN' ROGERS" moment for you?

I have lots. I love the scene in CAWS when Steve is in the elevator with all those people and he totally fights them off like a boss and then leaps out a (ten? Fifteen??) story window. I love the scene in CAFA, when he saves like, 200 POW's from the creepy HYDRA base. 

Probably the most iconic moment is when scrawny little Steve jumps on the grenade to save everybody, because I think that embodies who Steve is as a person. Always thinking of others before himself. Always willing to risk his life to keep everyone safe. 

10.) If Steve asked you on a date, would you accept?

Yes.

1.) How were you introduced to Tolkien? 

Goooosh. I.... I've known about Tolkien for as long as I can remember. It was something that was just a part of my life, like cookies or tennis shoes. My family are all huge Tolkien fans so I grew up with Lord of the rings a big part of my education. I remember hearing the soundtrack when I was really little and freaking out over the Black Rider music.

2.) Did you read the books before the movies or after? 

I read the books while I was watching the movies, but I didn't finish them until a few days after I saw The Return of the King.

3.) Do you like Tolkien's style of writing?  

I love Tolkien's style of writing! I know it isn't for everyone of course. It's a higher fantasy and it can be hard to read, but I find it beautiful and amazing. I love the way he uses the English language. It's so delicate and fine and his lines are always so epic. They make me happy, there nothing quite like them. And his sense of humor is amazing. I know that some people don't realize there IS humor in Tolkien's book. They don't catch onto it because of the 'high fantasy' it was written in. Can you believe that??? Those people say LOTR is boring and flat because nothing happens and the writing is too hard to read. They think that most of what the characters say doesn't even make sense now days!

4.) Do you like the film adaption? 

I love the film adaptions!!!! I think they are brilliant! I know Peter Jackson made a few mistakes but overall he did a really good job and I can forgive him for the stupid, unnecessary things.

5.) What is one thing from the books that you wish Peter Jackson had included in the films?

I wish that Eowyn and Faramir had kissed in the sight of many. I loved that scene so much. It would have been adorable. And sweet.

6.) What is one thing from the books that you are glad Peter Jackson cut/changed? 

There are a couple changes that I actually did like in the movies. I liked that the Elves came to help a the battle of Helm's deep. I liked that Theoden knew that Eowyn was there with him when he died. I liked that Merry was in the last battle and not left behind. (I am actually going to do a post about this soon. I'm reading the books right now and once I'm finished I'm going to do a books/vs movie post.)


7.) What character do you think has the most strength and courage? 

This one is really hard. I think if I have to be completely honest I am going to say.... Frodo. *Ducks away from fruits.* I KNOW I KNOW! All the characters are brave and heroic in their own way. They are all incredible characters with incredible courage and strength. I love them all. But Frodo.... I think Frodo was strong in all the ways that no one else could be. Where everyone else failed he succeeded. Where everyone else was overcome he pulled through. He was a very strong character. I mean... Most people were taken by the Ring in a matters of days, even hours, but he fought against it for months. He had the powers of darkness whispering in his ears for weeks and weeks and he managed to keep himself Frodo, even after all that time. He stumbled a few times yes, he got quiet and withdrawn and sometimes snappy, but that is only to be expected. He was carrying a terrible burden and it was not an easy thing to do. He tried his best to keep his sense of humor and kind, forgiving heart and even as the ring was taking hold he was still trying to keep that goodness, that pure simplicity. What he goes through and what the ring does to him hurts me.

8.) Which character do you think you are most like? 

I think I am the most like Merry, though there is a bit of Pippin in me too. I have Merry's sense of humor and I definitely have his ridiculous spirit and recklessness. But I am more serious too, like him, and I am very protective of those under me, always looking after everyone.

9.) Which is your favorite friendship?

I love the friendship between all of the hobbits especially Sam and Frodo, but I don't know if I can chooses one favorite friendship. Tolkien does so many amazing ones, even when they're small. I think.... I think I will go with Merry and Pippin. I relate the most to them on their quest and I adore how they are together. They are like brothers, it is so cute!!! They've chased each other around making mischief and trouble since forever and you would seldom see Merry without Pippin or vise-versa. They were silly, reckless hobbits who got pulled into the Quest of the Ring without much warning and they were very resourceful and brave and they were just.... they were really cool. I love how they protect and take care of each other. I love how they keep each other safe. I love how they can always count on each other, even when the world is falling apart around them. I love how their characters develop into such great men.

10.) Which is your favorite pairing?

Faramir and Eowyn. They had both lost so much. They were both so sad and alone and raw from grief and they both deserved happiness so much. I love how they are able to find peace and hope and joy together, even when there is so much that has gone wrong. Neither of them thought they would ever really find peace, but then they saw each other and they realized that maybe happiness wasn't altogether impossible. They understood each other in ways no one else could. They were isolated but they found comfort in each other and I just thought it was really beautiful and sweet. It makes me all emotional.

11) Which Middle -earth villain terrified you the most?

The Black Riders terrify me, they always have. They're like devils. And it's creepy. And I HATE their huge Nazgul things, they are awful. *Shudders* However, if Shelob counts as a villain then I would choose her. The idea of that thing even existing anywhere in the world freaks me out. I hate her. I hope she died from that wound Sam gave her. Very slowly. And painfully.

12.) What is your favorite quote from the books?

"I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory, I love only that which they defend." - Faramir

 13.) What is your favorite quote from the movie? 

This is a really hard one. I love the quote where Sam is talking to Frodo and he says that there is good in this world, and its worth fighting for. That quote always inspires me and it usually makes me cry too. I also love the one where Gandalf is talking about the Mystery of death. I'm going to write out both. Cause I do what I want.

And sometimes you didn't want to know the end… because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? I didn't think it would end this way.

14.) Given the choice would you spend the day with a hobbit or with an elf?

Wow. This one is also hard! I do believe I would spend the day with.... Hm. I suppose it depends on which elves we were talking about. I would love to spend time among the Elves of Rivendell, but the Elves of Mirkwood would make me nervous. If I could spend a day in Rivendell then yes, I would choose the Elves over the hobbits. BUT I would stop by to take tea with them the next afternoon.

15.) Mirkwood or Moria? 

OH MY GOSH. WHY DO YOU ASK THIS OF ME??? If Moria was still Moria in all her glory and splendor, I may go to Moria, but otherwise I would choose Mirkwood.

16.)  What is your favorite Middle Earth dress/style?

I love how the Rohirrim dress. They are so light and their colors are warm and welcoming. Their clothes looks simple but lovely and I think I'd be very comfortable in them. However, I love how the Elves look. They're clothing is so beautiful. I want to own Elvish Clothing. I love it.

HOBBIT HOLE!


It was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort.

18.) Rivendell or Lothlorien? 


Rivendell. Lothlorien is beautiful but Rivendell has less of an early spring feel and more of a summertime feel.

19.) Would you rather visit Rohan or Gondor? 

IT DEPENDS ON THE POINT IN HISTORY YOU GUYS!!! GOSH! If Aragorn was King, that is a whole different matter then if there were still Steward's on the throne. However.... I think I was visit Rohan first. I love Rohan.



Where now are the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?

20.) What is something about Middle Earth that completely astounds you? 

EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! LOL. No. I think the thing that astounds me the most about Middle Earth is how the ordinary is so easily mixed with the extraordinary. I love how real everything is. I love how you can look at Rohan, wonder how it came to be like it is and then be able to FIND OUT because Tolkien was nuts and wrote the entire history of his world. I love how you can take a character and follow his life and what he did. I love how you can take a race and read about how they came to be, where they were originally from and why they are like they are. It is so cool!!!!!! Tolkien was a genius. That is all I'm saying.

Here I am - I'm alive!!

Guess what!!! I'm back!

I've had some tags and comments encouraging me to update, because - well I needed to. I feel really bad because it has been absolute AGES since I've posted. but guess what! this time I have a good reason!! My family came up for the week and the whole time they were here I didn't have much time to be on the computer. When I have more time I will do a big long post on how awesome my family is and how much I love family reunions. But since I don't have much time I'm going to do the tag Jack hit me with. It has to do with a book written by Joan. And here it is.

1. What is your favourite Historical Mystery book?

I don't really read historical fiction. I know, horrible of me. there was one book I read called My Secret War Which was really good. So probably that one.

2. Would you rather read a Classic or a Mystery?

It depends on the classic, but probably a mystery.

3. How do you think Christmas at the Tittletons will compare to your favourite mystery?

From what I read on Kathryn's blog is sounds pretty good, the kind of book I would pick up from a shelf, stroke the cover and grin gleefully. I haven't been able to find many books like that lately, which makes me sad.

4. How do you think Christmas at the Tittletons will compare to your favourite Classic?

Erm...... I haven't read North and South but it is my favorite classic at the moment, so her book will be competing with that. It will probably live up to its expectations :)

5. Do you think you would like to write a Historical Mystery sometime?

No. I'm too lazy to write a mystery. That's actually the main problem with most of my books, I get discouraged to easily. I'm not much of a writer. I write sporadically and stop for weeks at a time. And that's why I'm not a author.
